Top tips on tackling midriff
Research now shows that more than half of British women are now apple shapes…. I was recently interviewed by a journalist what my top tips are on tackling midriff… and here they are:
-
Make sure your gut functions properly - a lot of abdominal 'fat' is actually bloating due to an unhealthy gut - so take lactobacillus acidophillis, aloe vera juice & drink peppermint tea
-
Avoid fizzy food - any air swallowed is stored in the body or comes out of the body. A lot of excess midriff is air / food / waste stored in the body – yuk!
-
Chew food properly / eat food slowly - un-chewed food sits in the gut, ferments / goes off and causes bloating / lethargy and can also decrease nutrient uptake. Chewing food properly also helps women to reduce the amount of food they eat because you tend to feel more satisfied from eating slower.
-
Avoid wheat and anything white (cakes / biscuits etc) - all aggravate the gut and can cause abdominal bloating. A lot of midriff excess is actually because the gut is unhappy and swollen
-
Cut out sugar - including fruit. Contraversial but it makes a huge difference to energy, appetite and abdominal inch loss when you cut it out. Avoid eating fruit with other foods and after meals, try to eat 30 mins before meals and try to only have before midday. Cut out sugar for 28 days and see your midriff disappear!!
-
Reduce stress - an increase in cortisol levels from stress can promote fat storage in the tummy area and stress can actually increase sugar and carb cravings. Many women I have worked with have automatically lost weight and inches when they have relaxed more or got rid of the stressful things in their lives.
-
Reduce alcohol - often drunk in a way to combat stress, women drink too much now. FACT! It's loaded in cals and definitely contributes to excess weight gain in many females.
-
Eat less - it is no coincidence that portion sizes have increased as women's waist lines have. Harder to control when feeding families and partners. Serve your dinner separately and train yourself to eat less (your body is remarkably clever at adapting to eating more and less, so train it!)
